Every wedding is filled with moments—big and small—that shape the story of the day. Some are planned, some unfold naturally, and all of them deserve to be captured in a way that feels real. To get a closer look at how we approach wedding storytelling, we sat down with Pat Brogan, one of our video editors, to hear his perspective on what makes a wedding film truly special.
Q: What stands out to you when editing a wedding film?
Pat: One thing I’ve learned from editing weddings is just how essential details and portraits are. A lot of people think the ceremony is the heart of the wedding story, but it’s really the small, fleeting moments that bring a wedding video to life. The way the light hits the bride’s veil, the nervous laugh before walking down the aisle, Uncle Bob wiping away tears—those are the moments that stick with you.
Q: Why do you think those details matter so much?
Pat: They’re what make a wedding unique. Anyone can capture the big moments, but it’s the little things—the way a couple naturally interacts, the unspoken emotions—that make a film feel personal. At our wedding company, we lean into photojournalistic tendencies, focusing on those candid moments that make a video feel real and authentic.
Q: You mentioned portraits—why are they one of your favorite parts of the day?
Pat: Once the couple shakes off their nerves, that’s when the real magic happens. I love when couples start to embrace the moment and just be themselves. It’s their time to shine, and the photos and videos we create during portraits often end up being some of the most powerful and intimate of the whole day.
Q: How do you balance capturing both the big moments and the smaller, more personal ones?
Pat: It’s all about being present and reading the room. The big moments—the vows, the first dance—those are obvious. But I also keep an eye out for the quieter things, like a proud parent’s glance or a quick squeeze of the hand. Those little moments are what bring a wedding film to life.
Wedding storytelling isn’t just about documenting an event—it’s about capturing the emotion, the energy, and the little things that make it yours. And that’s exactly what we love to do. 🎥✨ Drop us a line if you’d like us to help tell your story.
