A wedding is a day of blending generations: the new and the traditional, the young and the elder, memories past and new ones to come. Meredith and Tim’s elegant wedding at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church and Sequoia in Washington, DC was a poignant example of what happens when variation and honored tradition meet and love abounds.
During the ceremony, Meredith held a prayer book that had been carried down the aisle by each bride in Tim’s family, and it was wrapped in her great-grandmother’s handkerchief that her own mother had carried.

Steeped in tradition, the readings from the book of Genesis (a name shared by Meredith’s family’s sailboat) symbolized for the couple that each journey is a new beginning.
Along the way to the reception, the guests and wedding party paraded down the sidewalk, led by the couple’s tuxedo-and-bowtie-bedecked yellow labrador, George! Snow flurries and excited passers by made these few moments especially magical, and having their sweet dog play such an important role was Tim’s favorite part of the day.

The nautical name and sailboat decor at the reception venue, Sequoia, and the couple’s first dance to Bob Marley’s “Is This Love?”, celebrated the beginning of their journey together with a thoughtful nod to Meredith’s family sailing weekends and her late father’s joyful spirit. She was touched by Tim’s heartfelt speech, which ended with an invitation to dance.
