New York City is a photojournalist’s dream come true. The rich history blended with modern concrete buildings and lush places like Central Park offer incredible variety all in one place. When JPG has the opportunity to shoot in NYC, we jump on the train as soon as we can! One photoshoot from last fall stands out by incorporating the full flavor of New York. Meridith and Brian’s apartment has an amazing rooftop view of Central Park, but we also made sure to document the full New York City experience with a cab ride to shoot subway photos and a trip to Times Square.
The warm yellows, oranges, and reds of the fall foliage in Central Park provided splashes of color to an otherwise gray landscape in the city. Meridith and Brian were a fun couple to work with because they were so open to trying out different ideas, like jumping and running through Poet’s Walk! Normally jump shots are really difficult to capture, but it was worth putting the time in with this goofy couple, resulting in some of my favorite photos. Right around the corner from Poet’s Walk was Bethesda Terrace and Fountain that made for beautifully dusky shots. The architecture lent itself well to capturing New York City’s unique array of scenery.
The bustling city also allowed me to create compelling double-exposure photographs in which time seemed to stop. Times Square provided us with one of my favorite engagement shots of the entire year: Meridith and Brian sharing a kiss by the TKTS bleachers, framed by a brightly lit poster for Broadway’s “Kinky Boots.” We finished up the evening over a few drinks in one of the couple’s favorite speakeasies.
Having fun is one of our top priorities at JPG, and our clients make it easy! We wish Meridith and Brian the best of luck for their future together, and we can’t wait to go back to the city!
Best, Joe G.
