This New York City shoot certainly stands out from the pack. Instead of visiting the classic Times Square or Central Park, this couple decided to head to Governors Island for their engagement photos. We met Lise and Josh downtown and took the ferry over to the island. For those of you who don’t know, Governors Island is a beautiful old military base that’s been turned into a park that opens on weekends. The architecture and landscape play well off of one another, contrasting the old stone with the bright green grass and tall trees. Although there were no festivals the day we were there, the food trucks were out in full force! The island also provided phenomenal views of the New York skyline and the business district, plus the ferry ride was a perfect setting to capture some intimate moments.
After grabbing some grub, we found a little place selling sangria and coconut water. We thought these would make for fun pictures and we were absolutely right! Lise and Josh were a hysterical couple to photograph– they didn’t take themselves too seriously, and we spent a lot of time laughing together and embracing the goofiness of the day. One of my favorite shots from this shoot is Josh falling out of a hammock after taking some photos of the couple relaxing together! A lot of laughs and a short cab ride later, and we found ourselves happily eating scrumptious cannoli at Veniero’s Pasticceria & Caffe (est. 1894). The vintage sign created a prime location for a few more photos before the day’s end.
We are so happy to have documented their wedding day, and it was an absolute riot! Their guests were just as silly as the couple (check out some of their photo booth shots) and we loved spending the evening with them. We wish this goofy pair the best for their future and hope to see them again soon.
Best, Joe G.
